HP-1 HARMONICA PREAMP
Got a harp and a microphone? Dissatisfied with just plugging the microphone into a PA? Want to get that over-driven Chicago Blues Harp sound without having a small valve guitar amp? Tried guitar dirt boxes but they didn’t cut it? Have a clean solid state amp but want some natural dirt in your harp sound?
The old blues guys generally used a microphone plugged into a small low wattage guitar amp, so when the amp was turned up the harmonica sounded nice and dirty, but with not too much dirt… Many used low gain valves to tame the gain in the small amps.
Guitar Distortion Pedals often cut the bass before the overdrive stage, as too much bass can make the over driven guitar sound “muddy”. This makes them less than ideal for use with a harp and a microphone.
The Mozztronics HP-1 Harmonica Preamp uses 3 stages of JFET goodliness, operating in pure Class A, to accurately simulate an entire low wattage valve amp, including the speaker response. A JFET is a type of silicon transistor that operates in a similar way to a vacuum tube. There is no diode clipping so all the drive is from the natural compression of the jfet transistors.
There is a 1/4″ input for a microphone, and two outputs. The first is a 1/4″ to allow connection to an amp for monitoring. The second is a fully electronically balanced XLR to allow for direct connection to a stage box or mixer.
GAIN controls the amount of gain from the first stage, TONE controls the amount of treble in the output, from treble cut to treble boost, and VOLUME adjusts the overall volume out of the pedal. LIFT gives an earth lift for the balanced XLR output.
Mozztronics uses the industry standard Boss style 2.1mm center negative 9V DC socket for the power supply connection.
