DD-2 DOA DRIVE
Want something a bit different to the diode clipping overdrives? The Mozztronics DOA Drive DD-2 is the answer. DOA stands for Discrete Op Amp (Not Dead On Arrival). We use jfets for the input of each of the two DOA’s inside. We hadn’t made a Discrete Op Amp overdrive before, and now we have.
The guitarist in my band uses a “blues” drive pedal, so I wanted to make him a better one. Looking at the circuit for the original pedal there seemed to be some “odd” choices made in the design of the circuit. So onto the breadboard i jumped. After much tweakage i ended up with the DD-2 DOA Drive. This is based on the classic circuit from the 1980’s and 1990’s, we added our own touches, to enhance versatility, while keeping the touch sensitivity and enhancing clarity.
GAIN controls the amount of dirt from the two DOA stages and goes from clean to heavy crunch while retaining some jangliness even at extreme gain settings.
BASS, MID and TREBLE are a classic 3 knob tone stack
VOLUME adjusts the overall volume out of the pedal.
Turn the Mids and the Gain up, and classic Malcolm Young sounds are available. Turn Treble & Bass up, and Mids down, and you can get classic “Voxy” tones.
Plug in your acoustic guitar, the DD-2 brings a dull acoustic to life, turn up the gain and the DD-2 is perfect for slide, whether on a resonator or normal acoustic guitar.
This is great for a clean boost with an edge or crunchy dirty rhythm
Mozztronics uses the industry standard Boss style 2.1mm center negative 9V DC socket for the power supply connection.
