This is the Mozztronics take on a classic distortion pedal of yesteryear, The RAT.
From Andrew MacDonald, Mozztronics owner and builder:
“Recently I stumbled upon 14 of the LM308 chips that were used in the original RATs. The LM308 was discontinued in the early 90’s so RATs produced after that used the OP07 chip.
The OP07 works well, but lets be honest, its not quite the same as the old RATs, that’s why the old RATs go for big money these days
You can still find the LM308 available online, but most of these are fakes sold by unscrupulous people, and if they don’t work, there is no way to get your money back. So, as I am 100% sure of the authenticity of the LM308s I found, and to their history and provenance I decided to make a very limited run of my RAT pedal with authentic LM308 chips.
There will only ever be 14 of these made, as my friend only had 14 chips. Each pedal is individually numbered and signed.”
GAIN controls the amount of gain from the first stage
TONE controls the amount of treble in the output
VOLUME adjusts the overall volume out of the pedal.
We have added a MODE switch to easily switch between different clipping modes, vintage (UP – standard RAT) and modern (DOWN – turbo RAT).
Oh, and the Bandicota is a genus of rat, and it sounds a bit like “Bandicoot”, a species of mammal in Australia.
Mozztronics uses the industry standard Boss style 2.1mm center negative 9V DC socket for the power supply connection.
